Pastor Steven NewcombCongregational Care & Adult Discipleship Pastor

Rev. Steven Newcomb

Pastor Steven comes to us from First United Methodist Church in Wharton, where he has served as Senior Pastor since 2020. In his new role, he will guide our ministries of adult discipleship and congregational care. His responsibilities will include home and hospital visitation, equipping and deploying the Congregational Care Team, partnering with the Stephen Ministry, supporting Sunday School classes, developing small groups, and leading short-term Bible studies throughout the year.

An ordained Elder in the Texas Annual Conference, Pastor Steven holds a Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology and a Bachelor of Social Sciences from Southern Methodist University. He also studied at Lon Morris College, where he served as Chaplain, Director of the Church Careers Program, and Dean of Students.

Pastor Steven brings with him a proven record of strengthening discipleship through Sunday School, small groups, seasonal studies, and community-wide events for all ages. One of his greatest gifts is the ministry of care—listening deeply, walking with people one-on-one, and helping congregations connect with the communities around them.

Pastor Steven is married to Becca, an ordained Deacon currently serving at First UMC Katy. They are the proud parents of a two-year-old son, Samuel. As a family, they love to travel, especially by cruise, and are looking forward to an upcoming trip to Disney together.

Pastor Steven shared this message with us:

“I cannot possibly communicate how excited I am to be joining the community at First UMC of Houston. Your vibrant church family has been a beacon of faith for the people of this area for a very long time, and I look forward to being part of the future with you as we spread the love and grace of Jesus Christ. To have the opportunity to join you specifically in support of adult discipleship and congregational care is something that warms my heart, and I cannot wait to get to know you better.”
