Image On Monday evening, a few of us went to a worship night and prayer gathering here in downtown called Urban Hymnal. It was on a Monday night. Folks had to pay $10 for parking. And there were over 200 young people from all over the city gathered to worship. There were no chairs, people sat on the ground, stood, or walked. People were kneeling on the concrete floor. The tech was low. And the Spirit was high. These folks were completely sold out for God, they expected to encounter God that evening. It reminded me of a lesson I learned a few years ago- God can do anything through people whose only purpose is to worship and serve our Risen King, and who are willing to give up any of their preferences in order to stay true to God’s call.
I think most people would be surprised to hear that this was going on right down the road from us. Some of my best moments in life are times I’ve been surprised by God. I encourage you to invite God to surprise you this week- surprise you with hope, with joy, with assurance.
This Sunday we’ll have Pizza in the Park – click here to join us! September 28th is going to be a big day – students will be leading our worship service, and we’ll have our State of the Church meeting after worship in the sanctuary. Our stewardship series, First Fruits, will begin in October. Also, we’re looking for a couple of volunteers who could help man the welcome desk for The Park on Wednesdays between 9:15 to 12:15. Could you let our kids director, Courtney, know if you could do that once a month or so? Her email address is [email protected].
This Sunday, we’ll be digging into Scripture to learn from the life of Lydia. I can’t wait to worship with you!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Lindsay Kirkpatrick
