I’m loving getting to meet with people and hear the longings people have for our church. One of the things people have asked repeatedly is about the possibility of using the word “United” in our church logo and digital media again. We had a fruitful conversation about that at our Administrative Board meeting this past Sunday and I look forward to sharing the results of that with you at our State of the Church meeting on September 28th. I’ve also heard a desire to reach new people come up in a lot of different ways. I think making new disciples, mimicking the apostle Andrew and bringing new people to Christ, is the first calling of the church, and I’m so glad to hear a heart for that here. Yesterday morning, the Houston Chronicle reported that a corporate high rise near our church is going to be converted into over 400 apartments. I’m excited that we get to be praying now for the people who will move in one day, and be thinking ahead about how to reach them for Christ.
This Sunday we’ll have a cottage meeting after church with pizza and childcare. If you haven’t had a chance to attend one yet, we’d love to have you join us! Our State of the Church meeting will take place on September 28th in the sanctuary directly after worship, and we plan on finishing that meeting by 1pm. I hope you’ll save the date. That day will also be Student Sunday, with members of our youth group leading worship. I know you’ll pray for and celebrate their church leadership right along with me.
For this week’s Scripture of the Week, Psalm 9:1 says, “I will thank you, Lord, with all my heart; I will talk about all your wonderful acts.” I encourage you to pause for a moment of gratitude, ask God to fill your mind with all the things you have to be thankful for. And then maybe find the right moment today, in a phone call with a friend in faith, or around the dinner table, to share one wonderful thing God has done. As we get intentional about that, we start noticing more and more, until we get to a point where it’s not difficult at all to be aware of God’s goodness in any given day. I can’t wait to worship with you this Sunday!
