“And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
(1 Kings 19:12b, NIV)
Dear Church Family,
There are moments in life when we feel worn down, overwhelmed, or simply unsure of what’s next. That’s exactly where the prophet Elijah found himself in 1 Kings 19. After a great spiritual victory, he was exhausted, afraid, and alone. But instead of confronting Elijah with thunder and fire, God came in a gentle whisper—a reminder that the Spirit cares for us not just in power but also in presence.
This Sunday, Pastor Steven will be preaching a message titled “In the Spirit’s Care,” drawing from this powerful passage. It’s a timely reminder that even when we feel at our lowest, God meets us with compassion, sustenance, and quiet strength.
We’ve seen the Spirit of care and joy in motion this past week as our children, youth, and adult volunteers experienced a life-giving time at Lakeview summer camp. Thank you for your prayers and support—it was a week full of faith, fun, and connection.
Please continue to lift up our community in prayer, especially the 6 students and 2 adult leaders who will travel to Lufkin June 22–27 for the All Youth Mission Trip. May they be empowered by the Spirit to serve with energy, creativity, and love.
And as we prepare to welcome Pastor Lindsay and her family into our church, we ask for your prayers during this time of transition. May they feel surrounded by grace, and may our congregation be ready to receive them with open hearts and eager anticipation for what God is doing in our midst.
In the stillness, in the journey, and in each act of service—we are always in the Spirit’s care.
Peace, Love, and Joy,
Pastor Lance

We’re gathering a small but diverse Design Team to help us dream, pray, and listen for what God might be building in and through our city. This isn’t a planning committee; it’s a space for bold, Spirit-led conversation, honest reflection, and seeking unity across boundaries.
We’re looking for people from all walks of life: teens, young adults, seasoned churchgoers, folks who’ve stepped away from church, and everyone in between. If that sounds like you, or someone you know, we’d love for you to be part of this journey.
Sign-ups open June 29, 2025.
If you’re a regular part of First Methodist:
We would appreciate your help. Please prayerfully consider who in your life needs to be in this room: friends, coworkers, students, family, neighbors, and pass this opportunity along. We believe God is stirring something beyond the walls of any one church, and it starts with people like you extending the invitation.
More info coming soon, including how to sign up and what to expect. For now, consider this your early nudge:
