January 29 – Devotional

Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:97-112

Key Verses: Your word is a lamp before my feet and a light for my journey. – Psalm 119:105, CEB

Psalm 119 describes God’s Word as a source of guidance, life, and hope. The Psalmist wrote that God’s Word keeps us from sinning, comforts, gives reason to praise and thank God, instructs, gives wisdom, lights our way, strengthens, revives, brings salvation, gives life, and delivers us. Interestingly, Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm and is found in the center of the Bible. No doubt that is not a coincidence because the Psalm is about God’s Word, and God’s Word is at the center of our faith. As the Statement of Faith (Creed) of the Korean Methodist Church says, “We believe in the Word of God contained in the Old and New Testaments as the sufficient rule both of faith and of practice.” We know that God’s vision for our church will be aligned with Scripture; the challenge we as individuals and the church as a whole face is how we put God’s Word into practice.
