MESSAGE FROM THE PASTORS
December 3, 2025
Stay up to date with all that’s happening at First Methodist Houston.
Hello Church Family!
I was surprised by Scripture again this week – I came across a passage I didn’t remember, and it’s this week’s Scripture of the Week.
“I raise my eyes to you- you who rule heaven. Just as the eyes of servants attend to their masters’ hand, just as the eyes of a female servant attend to her mistress’ hand- that’s how our eyes attend to the Lord our God until he has mercy on us.” – Psalm 123:1-2
I was captured by the imagery. Why do we pay special attention to the decisions and moves of our boss? Because it affects us, yes. But also, if it’s a good relationship, because we want to be able to be responsive and helpful. Bottom line – they’re important to us, and we pay attention to what’s important.
I love the idea of getting to know God so well that we can track God’s moves, we easily notice what God is doing in our lives, and in the world. It becomes second nature to be that aware. Advent, the season of preparation for Jesus, is the perfect time to ask for God’s help in noticing the movement of God’s hands.
On December 19th, we’ll have a Movie Night here at the church, and enjoy The Polar Express, some hot chocolate, and more together. I hope you’ll join us! I also want to make sure that it’s on everyone’s radar that we added an additional Christmas Eve service this year, a family service at 4 pm. Our own kids will be acting out the Christmas story, and the whole service will be more geared towards kids, while still connecting us adults to Christmas, too. I can’t wait! The 7 pm and 11 pm services will beautifully fill out our Christmas celebration.
Be on the lookout for a note in the mail this week about a Christmas offering. A week ago, a group of NIA ladies went on a retreat and shared what God was doing in their lives. Kids at Quillian had a Kindness Camp over Thanksgiving break and made and delivered goody bags to police officers and folks at a local park. We hosted 58 Lifeline clients for a sit-down Thanksgiving meal. It’s beautiful to see the ways God is reaching people through the ministries of our church.
Grace and Peace,
