The Unity of the Spirit

Scripture: “and make an effort to preserve the unity of the Spirit with the peace that ties you together. 4 You are one body and one spirit, just as God also called you in one hope. 5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 and one God and Father of all, who is over all, through all, and in all.” – Ephesians 4:3-5

Hello Church Family,
Sometimes it’s hard to hear God when He’s speaking, and other times it’s hard to know if it is God you’re hearing. If you’re engaging in our daily prayer guide right now and find yourself feeling that way, let me suggest a couple tips:

  • Read the prayer guide.
  • Read the prayer questions.
  • Take a moment of silence, lift those questions up in prayer, and say, “God, what are your answers?”
  • Just sit in the silence for 2-5 minutes, and see what thoughts come to mind.
  • If a thought comes to mind that feels like it has some certainty or authority to it, and that seems like it’s aligned with the teachings of Scripture, then please share it with us. (reply to this email, reply to your daily email, reply in text, write it on the prayer board in the lobby)
  • If we get several responses along a similar theme, then that begins to indicate something from God, “the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

We’ve already begun getting some great feedback. Let me share some of the things you believe God is saying:
“focus on the city”

  • “prayerfully discern God’s will for west campus before finances force us to”
  • “God’s calling us to focus on worship, fellowship, and agape love”
  • “I hear that submission is needed. Not only submission to God’s better way, but also to each other in the church. When God speaks clearly to someone in the church, I can join in God’s way through submission to that person’s insight into God’s better way.”
  • “How to break chains: Well to get to the Promised Land, most people died before it happened. Some behaviors or attitudes may have to die. Someone must lead with vision and joy. Some may have to relinquish power, ideas, voice. And focus on prayer, vision, and service must occur and it is!”

Our Administrative Board will be reviewing what you share as it considers future decisions for our church, so thank you all for doing the hard work of listening for the Lord!

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Lindsay Kirkpatrick
