Scripture:
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. Psalm 51:17 (NIV)
Throughout Scripture, we see over and over the way the Lord detests pride. The Apostle Peter tells us “God is opposed to the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5). Ask the Lord to break your spirit of independence and give you a spirit of humility. Ask Him to give you a contrite heart, so that you will be able to discern His voice and know His will.
Prayer: “Lord, I lay my heart and my mind before You today. Rid me of every trace of pride, and replace it with a humble and meek spirit, so that I can recognize Your voice and uncover Your will for my life. Help me to discern the areas of my life that You are calling to account – and help me take responsibility and seek forgiveness for where I have gone wrong. I want to reflect You and not myself.”
