Sunday, January 19th, at 4:00 PM

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Weekend, First Methodist will combine with one of the other oldest churches in Houston: Trinity United Methodist, Houston’s first African-American church, established in 1865. The two churches are collaborating together on a joint celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the heroes of the civil rights movement, held at First Methodist Houston’s historic downtown sanctuary.

The event will feature the churches’ combined youth, musicians, and choirs, and feature a collection of music historically connected to the Civil Rights movement and the life of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Reverend Edward Jones, Senior Pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church, will deliver the address.

The event will be live-streamed through First Methodist’s live streaming page, Facebook page, and YouTube channel. A catered reception at First Methodist Houston will commence immediately following the event.

A special offering will be held to support college campus ministries at University of Houston and Texas Southern University

Donations can be brought the service to benefit Perfectly Suited Boutique, a ministry that offers free professional clothing for women and men in need of appropriate attire for job interviews, presentation, and other career opportunities.
