Thanksgiving Devotion Nov 19
Written by: Yesly Antu
Scripture: Genesis 8:22; 1Peter 1:6; Psalm 7:17; Psalm 104:19-35
Bless the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!
It was hard to sing those phrases in March when it appeared that the world had shut down and in April and in May and so forth. Panic is probably one of the top three feelings I have felt this year. The changes that COVID-19 brought to my life were not part of my new year’s resolutions and did not fit in my plans for 2020.
As I read scripture, I have learned that my praise and thanksgiving is not correlated to what I’m feeling, what season I am in or what the state of the world is. We praise the God Almighty because of his righteousness, because he is faithful, worthy and loving. Whether I’m aware of it or not, he makes everything new every morning.
So, in this season of grief and loss, I am grateful because despite all the challenges, God still loves me. I’m grateful because the sun shines every morning, and the moon beams every night. I’m grateful because I still know how to love even when it’s hard. I’m grateful because I still know how to cry and pray. I’m grateful because the white and purple wildflowers still bloomed this past spring, and yellow wildflowers are still blooming this fall. I’m grateful because the summer trees still provided shade and the earth is now preparing to sleep.
I’m grateful because God Almighty still reigns. And even when all hope feels lost and I feel defeated, I know that Sunday is near.
Prayer: Dear God of the Universe, I come to you with a humble heart, trusting that even though I walk in darkness, I know I’m not alone. I am grateful for your everlasting love and wisdom that makes everything possible. I’m grateful because you still look at the earth and it trembles; you touch the mountains and they smoke. I will sing to you Lord as long as I live. Bless the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!
