MORNING (SUNDAY SCHOOL)
These classes meet from 10:05 to 11 a.m. each Sunday:
Adult Bible Hour Location: Chapel (C101) Average Attendance: 75 Age Range: 35-93; Average Age: 58 Format: Lecture Teacher: Leo Tyler, Director of Evangelism This is a large, lecture class taught by Leo. Leo is a creative, engaging teacher who can bring the stories of the Bible to life. The class has a well-organized leadership team that serves for six months at a time. Several times, this class has learned of a need in a person’s life, and moved swiftly to meet that need. They have provided major auto repairs, helped with bills, and nurtured people during times of loss.
††† NEW CLASS ††† Encouraging Word Location: Wesley Academy, Room 216 Age Range: Any are Welcome Average Attendance: 15 Format: Teacher-Led Bible Study and Discussion Teachers: George Elam and Margy Taylor Join our newest class that is studying Richard Foster’s book, Prayer: Finding the Heart’s True Home. This group’s purpose is to grow in faith and encourage one another through study, prayer, and fellowship. If you are new to the church or new to Bible study, this would be a great place to get connected.
Good News Location: Wesley Academy Library Average Attendance: 5-15 Age Range: Intergenerational adults Format: Lecture/Discussion Teachers: Bob Gaddis, Carolyn Kizzee Sitting around tables in the Wesley library invites class discussion between the members and the teacher, and among the members.This group of singles and couples of all ages is studying basic beliefs of the Christian church emphasizing practical, everyday theology. Understanding what we believe and growing together in our faith is our objective.
Journey of Friends Location: Wesley Academy, Room 222 Average Attendance: 15-25 Age Range: 45-55 Format: Discussion Teachers: Kevin O’Brien, Pat & Patricia Walker, Mike Warren Journey of Friends is a diverse mix of single and married adults in their 40s-50s... We have high school and college age kids and some of us have grand kids. We are a sandwich generation switching from taking care of our kids to taking care of our aging parents. Our teachers take turns leading the class lesson in a discussion format. Part of each class is spent on sharing experiences and prayer requests. Study topics are practical in-depth discussions on how you can apply God’s word in Daily Life. When we aren't in class, we enjoy helping others and we spend a lot of our leisure time in local mission opportunities or mission trips abroad.
Men’s Sunday Bible Class Location: Wesley Academy, Room 220 Average Attendance: 10-15 Age Range: 28-55; Average Age: 35 Format: Bible Discussion led by teacher Teacher: Daniel Arguijo Dan leads this group of men who are interested in learning how to live as a Christian man every day.
Open Door Location: Wesley Academy, Room 201 Average Attendance: 20-30 Format: Lecture and discussion Teachers: Mary Daffin, Ray Jones Excellent teaching and humor mark this group of people who will never be mistaken for “Gen-X marathoners” (that’s how they referred to themselves in their article in our newsletter).
Three Cords Location: Wesley Academy, Room 235 Average Attendance: 15-25 Age Range/Average: 25-35 Format: Lecture/Discussion Teacher: Rotates among class willing members Our members include young couples; both engaged and married, in their 20’s and 30’s. Our focus is on building strong partnerships based on a growing relationship with Christ and a deeper understanding of God’s Word. The class plans monthly parties to eat, play games, and have lots of fun and fellowship!
Truth Seekers Location: Wesley Academy, Room 213 Average Attendance: 25-35 Age Range: 35-60; Average Age: 42 Format: Lecture, with questions and answers Teacher: Mark Harwell The members of this class typically are married or single parents of school- age children. They have a steering committee in place and are responsive to the needs of their class members. They take seriously the goal of living as followers of Jesus. Each week they welcome visitors and members with warm fellowship, coffee, and donuts.
Women of the Word Location: Wesley Academy, Room 234 Average Attendance: 15-25 Age Range/Average: Intergenerational women Format: Lecture/Discussion Teacher: Roxanne Worsham A strong Bible study group of women of all ages endeavoring to learn how to make Christ a reality in their daily lives. Every woman is invited to join us in walking in His truth and abundance.

AFTERNOON/EVENING
Bible Survey Class
This advanced class covers most of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Students learn to read the Bible with enrichment from contextual information, such as historical, archaeological, cultural and linguistic information (some important perspectives are lost in translation!). We will also look at the literary and narrative aspects of the Biblical text in order to probe its depths, and explore how different sections of Scripture relate to each other. Significant Bible reading is assigned to this class. Bring your Bible and a large spiral notebook.

Baptism Foundation Location: Wesley Academy, Room 135 (Marvin Collie Conf. Rm.) Format: Presentations and discussion Schedule: First Sunday each month Teacher: Pastor Susan Grittman This class is offered on the first Sunday of each month to discuss the meaning and purpose of baptism. It is required for parents who want to have their children baptized. The class is also helpful to adults who are desiring baptism for themselves or want to learn more about baptism.
Being Christian and United Methodist Location: Wesley Academy, Room 215 Average Attendance: 5-10 Format: Presentation and discussion Schedule: Second Sundays-Part A; Third Sundays-Part B Teacher: Dorinda Guillermo and Pastor Susan Grittman This introductory class for inquiring visitors, new members or long-time members is offered in a presentation and discussion format designed to address what United Methodists believe, how we are organized for ministry, and how First Methodist gives people opportunities to grow and serve Jesus Christ.
