First Methodist Houston is committed to providing opportunities to nurture the sacred relationship of marriage through preparation for marriage & ongoing support for married persons.

God is love and love is from God (1 John 4:7, 16). Through faith in Jesus Christ, God gifts us with a foundation for love & marriage that lasts a lifetime. The following opportunities are available through First Methodist Houston to help provide a solid foundation & ongoing support for couples and families.

BUILDING A SOLID FOUNDATION (PREMARITAL WORKSHOP)
This workshop is held three times a year: January, April & September. This workshop goes over the many aspects of a healthy foundation for marriage.

Workshop topics include:
• God’s Design for Marriage
• FOCCUS Inventory
• Myths of Marriage
• Communications Skills
• Conflict Resolution
• Financial Partnership
• Physical and Spiritual Intimacy
• Marriage with a Mission

The FOCCUS Inventory is also offered in the workshop. It is a great tool for couples to see where they are strong and to identify areas they want to work on to strengthen their marriages. After each person takes the inventory, it is sent off to be scored. A pastor will call and make an appointment to meet with the couple to go over the results.

For couples getting married at either the Downtown or Westchase Campuses, the cost of the workshop is included in the cost of the wedding. Other couples may take the class for a cost of $75.00 per couple. This includes all the materials, meals (breakfast, lunch, and snack), and the FOCCUS Inventory.

The workshops are held at the Westchase Campus, usually in Stansbury Hall.

WEEKEND TO REMEMBER
This quality weekend experience for couples is a great tool for keeping a healthy marriage. This weekend marriage conference teaches God's design for marriage and family. For thirty years, the Weekend to Remember conference has been helping couples create the kind of memories that build a healthy marriage. This weekend offers couples the opportunity to talk, laugh, learn and reconnect. There is even a “Date Night” for you to do something special together.

During this conference you will:
• Discover God’s plan for marriage
• Develop teamwork with your spouse
• Develop teamwork with your spouse
• Truly understand your role in marriage
• Identify the top five threats to oneness
• Establish true intimacy with each other
• Learn to resolve all conflict
• Move toward oneness in marriage
