Short Term

The Bible Survey Class covers most of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, in 32 weeks.
Students will learn to read the Bible with enrichment from contextual information, such as
historical, archaeological, cultural, and linguistic information (some important perspectives are lost in translation!).
We will also look at the literary and narrative aspects of the Biblical text in order to probe its depth, and
explore how different sections of Scripture relate to each other.
Significant Bible reading is assigned to this class. Bring your Bible to class.
There is no charge for this course

Location: Chapel (C101)

Format: Lecture
Teacher: Leo Tyler, Director of Evangelism This is a large, lecture class taught by Leo. Leo is a creative,engaging teacher who can bring the stories of the Bible to life. The class has a well-organized leadership team that serves for six months at a time. Several times, this class has learned of a need in a person’s life, and moved swiftly to meet that need.They have provided major auto repairs, helped with bills, and nurtured people during times of loss.
 

Connections Class

Location: Wesley Academy, Room  215
Format: Presentation and discussion
 Schedule: 1st - 4th Sundays
First - Discover First - Introduction to First Methodist Houston Westchase and our basic beliefs.
Second - Small Groups and Spiritual Growth - the small group structure of First Methodist Houston Westchase and the process for the spiritual growth and care of our members.
Third - Membership - what it means to be a faithful member of the church.
Fourth - Finding Your Place - uses the Birkman Method to affirm much of what you know about yourself while presenting new opportunities to serve. To prepare for this session e-mail Marj Cujko to complete the Birkman Method before Sunday: mcujko@fmhouston.com.
Our Connections class is designed for a group of interested individuals to discuss what brought them together, how they can grow and become more like Christ. Sitting around tables in the Wesley library invites class discussion between the members and the teacher, and among the members.This group of singles and couples of all ages is studying basic beliefs of the Christian church emphasizing practical, everyday theology. Understanding what we believe and growing together in our faith is our objective.
 
Journey of Friends

Age Range: 45-55
Format: Discussion
Teachers: Kevin O’Brien, Pat & Patricia Walker, Mike Warren Journey of Friends is a diverse mix of single and married adults in their 40s-50s... We have high school and college age kids and some of us have grand kids. We are a sandwich generation switching from taking care of our kids to taking care of our aging parents. Our teachers take turns leading the class lesson in a discussion format. Part of each class is spent on sharing experiences and prayer requests. Study topics are practical in-depth discussions on how you can apply God’s word in Daily Life. When we aren't in class, we enjoy helping others and we spend a lot of our leisure time in local mission opportunities or mission trips abroad.

Teacher: Rotates among class willing members Our members include young couples; both engaged and married, in their 20’s and 30’s. Our focus is on building strong partnerships based on a growing relationship with Christ and a deeper understanding of God’s Word. The class plans monthly parties to eat, play games, and have lots of fun and fellowship!
 
Truth Seekers
Location: Wesley Academy, Room 213

Age Range: 35-60; Average Age: 42
Format: Lecture, with questions and answers
Teacher: Mark Harwell
The members of this class typically are married or single parents of school- age children. They have a steering committee in place and are responsive to the needs of their class members. They take seriously the goal of living as followers of Jesus. Each week they welcome visitors and members with warm fellowship, coffee, and donuts.
 
Women of the Word: Book of James
