Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17. Just as Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness reflecting on his upcoming ministry, so Christians enter the Lenten season to reflect, examine and redirect their spiritual lives.
Noon Service
First Methodist Houston's Downtown Campus, located at 1320 Main St. @ Clay, 77002, will mark the first day of Lent with a noon service. Following Jewish scriptural custom, ashes will be placed on each worshipper's forehead, as desired, in the sign of the cross, commonly referred to as the "imposition of ashes." An ensemble from the Sanctuary Choir will sing and Dr. Steve Wende will bring the message.
Childcare for pre-school children will be available by reservation only. Reservations must be made no later than noon Monday, February 15. Contact Brenda Kenney at 832-668-1879 or bkenney@fmhouston.com.
Children and Family Service
Join us at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall for an interactive worship service designed especially for children and families. After a brief children's sermon and the imposition of ashes, families will enjoy soft pretzels, a traditional Lenten food.
Imposition of Ashes
Pastors and staff will be available to impose ashes on those who will not be able to attend a service. A devotional guide will be provided for participants who would like to use this time to reflect and pray. You may come and go to the Bintliff Chapel during the following times to receive the ashes: 7-9am and 4:30 - 6pm.
