Throughout our history First Methodist has been shaping lives across the
city of Houston and across the world. Each year we invite the people
who are a part of the First Methodist family to help fund the important
work God is doing through our church. We want every person to be a part
of what God is doing here. Financial giving is an important part of our task
as Christians: to be faithful as we seek to reach and nurture God’s children in
His love. We do not work alone. Just like the little boy who offered his loaves
and fish to Jesus, we believe that God will bless and multiply every gift for
the glory of His Kingdom.

We also believe that God will bless us when we give faithfully. 1 Timothy
6:17-19 says, “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be
arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put
their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous
and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as
a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life
that is truly life.”

The simple message here is that we’ve all been given much by God. As an
act of love for God as well as obedience to his will, we are challenged to be
generous and willingly share. When we share, we make possible the spread of
the Gospel to every part of the world, we strengthen a great church,
we please God, and we open our own lives to His blessing.

What will your part be?
In order to help you see how your giving is used,
we’ve grouped the ministries of First Methodist into five
distinct categories, with projected costs for 2014.

We live in a time where there is a lot of anxiety and fear about our
finances. Here at First Methodist Houston, we believe the answer to that
fear is trusting God. The Bible has hundreds of Scriptures that teach us
not to fear or be afraid. With those promises in mind, we are inviting
you to demonstrate your trust by making a financial commitment in
2014. We have great plans to strengthen our church and increase our
impact next year, but we need everyone to play a part.
