Our Outreach in Acuña
We began our ministry outreach in Acuña, Mexico nine years ago, sending youth teams across the border in the summer of 2001. Growth in this border town of over 200,000 has exploded over the last two decades with people moving from the south to find work in the factories. However, with not enough work, many families end up in abject poverty in the neighborhoods around Acuña.
Our ministry quickly grew to include adult teams and a Family Mission Trip each Christmas. More than 1,000 people from First Methodist have ministered in Acuña through the years. We have built and repaired houses, led evangelistic rallies for hundreds, shared meals with our brothers and sisters in Christ, prayed together, led VBS, participated in prayer walks around the city and watched the communities change for the better.
Del Rio Mission Trip
Violence has been recently reported in Acuña and families there are under siege from outside cartels. Because of this situation, we will not cross the border at this time. Our July mission trip will be to Del Rio, Texas where there are many people living in poverty, situations very similar to those in Acuña.
Please consider joining Rev. Mark Welshimer and the team as we build and repair homes for the elderly and poor and share Christ with the families in Del Rio.
Pray for Acuña
We have been praying that Acuña would remain a "safe, quiet place."
- Please join with us in praying fervently for the city of Acuña and for our brothers and sisters who are caught in this frightening situation.
- Please pray that God will use this to spread His word and use the seeds that we and others have planted to grow at this time.
- Please pray for Pastor Julio, his leaders and the other pastors to be protected and used to lead many to Christ.
- We know that God is in control and what Satan means for evil, God can use for good. Our prayers are for that end. Please pray and ask others to stand against the enemy on behalf of Acuña.
Del Rio Mission Trip Meeting Sunday, June 6
There will be a Del Rio Mission Trip informational meeting following the second services at each campus on Sunday, June 6. An update on activity in Acuña will also be given at this time.
Please join the team this summer and help us continue our commitment to the area. Please pray for a return to Acuña.
Serving together,
