The United Methodist Women (UMW) is organized with the purpose of knowing God, supporting one another, and promoting global missions. The UMW strives to follow Christ's teachings to do acts of justice, mercy, and faith and to serve one another on an equal basis. As Jesus said, "Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all." Mark 9:35
Our local UMW Unit hosts four General Meetings annually. These meetings are open to all women who share a passion for Christ and His people. While the General Meetings are a wonderful opportunity for the membership at large to gather and affirm our purpose, the real fun takes place in the small groups or Circles.
For more information about our Circles or our local unit of United Methodist Women please contact Charlotte Newton at celainenew@aol.com or 281-980-1918.

First Methodist Houston - Westchase is starting a new 12-week session of the “First Place 4 Health” class for women during the Sunday School hour (10:00 -11:00am). We will begin our new session with a bible study centered on “Growing in the Fruit of the Spirit” on July 11, 2010, at 10:00am in WA Room 221.
First Place 4 Health is a Christ-centered total-wellness program. This program is not just about weight loss. It’s about the 4 essential areas of our lives: emotional, spiritual, mental and physical. First Place 4 Health encourages members to adopt practical disciplines in all four areas. These include:
· regular attendance and fellowship (emotional)
· prayer, Scripture reading and Bible study
(spiritual)
· Scripture memory and keeping a food record
(mental)
· eating well and exercising (physical)
First Place 4 Health helps members learn how to be victorious over past eating patterns and how to commit their minds and, ultimately, their bodies to God. After all, as Christians, we should all heed the instructions given to us by Jesus in Mark 12:30: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
The First Place 4 Health program is works in a series of 12-week bible study sessions along with a Member’s Kit. Each 12-week study book (about $16) contains daily bible study, as well as weekly “Live It” trackers to document our progress and motivate us to keep on track. Also included are Scripture memory cards, a coordinating Scripture memory music CD (the memory verses set to music), and two complete weeks of menu plans with grocery lists, recipes and detailed nutrition information.
If it’s time to focus on wellness in your life, please join us. This is also an opportunity to reach out to a friend or loved one who is not regularly attending church but who would like to join a weight-loss program. Perhaps you can invite them to join our class and they can get a double-benefit of losing weight and gaining God!
For more information or to reserve you place in the class, please contact Rebecca Pickett at rebecca.pickett.tx@gmail.com or 713-502-1421.
You can also see us online at: www.firstplace4health.com and www.fp4h.com/FMHoustonWestchase.
